Friday Quote: On Poetry and Cat Concerts

"Poetry proves again and again that any single overall theory of anything doesn't work. Poetry is always the cat concert under the window of the room in which the official version of reality is being written."

So true, so true. Chesterton says that the thoroughly logical person is the madman. Poetry reminds us that logic is not the sum of all knowing.

What a wonderful thought! I think I'll use a version of it next time I'm accused (by Him Who Shall Not Be Named) of being completely mad, I'll be able to point out that I must be being most thoroughly logical!
